When the chakras of the body become blocked or clogged, the effects are often felt, not just on a spiritual level but on an emotional and physical level as well. The chakras are energy vortexes of the body, and in addition to representing seven levels of consciousness, their positions also correspond with the location of the body's endocrine glands.
If you are open to being sensitive to your body's subtle energies, you may recognize that a chakra is blocked by a feeling of "being stuck" in a certain chakra, as though the energy is stagnating and not flowing upwards as it normally would in a freely open system. If you are more accustomed to using your emotions as a barometer, you may notice the relatively unexplainable and persistent presence of certain emotions that herald a blockage in particular chakras. For example a prevalent sense of fear or being threatened can mean a blockage in your root chakra, your "survival base." Overwhelming sorrow can indicate a blockage in your second, emotional center chakra, while an unprecedented feeling of anger can mean a blocked third chakra in your solar plexus.
There are also physical indications of blocked chakras, which are the easiest to spot as they are usually the most tangible for most people. A physical ailment heralding blockages in one or more chakras will generally be felt at or near the location of the chakra itself. One example of this is a sore throat when your fifth, or throat chakra, is under duress. Another is digestive ails when your third, solar plexus chakra is not working optimally. Cramps in the lower belly, including menstrual cramps when you're out of season, can indicate trouble in the second chakra.
No doctrine is always correct, get to know your own body and its signs of warning. Your body, and your overall health, will always find a way to get your attention when it needs healing. Often the first step to healing is to recognize the need for it.
